What this test checks

The test sends known signals to the left, right or both digital channels so you can compare them with the physical earcups. It is most useful for separating a routing or fit problem from a fault that follows the headphones to another device.

Use this test when
  • One earcup is silent, quieter or less clear than the other.
  • A new headset has weak bass, an off-center stereo image or uncertain channel labels.
It can verify
  • Whether each digital channel reaches the expected physical side.
  • Whether a centered signal appears reasonably balanced between both ears.
  • Whether reseating the pads or tips changes bass and phase perception.
It cannot verify
  • Calibrated frequency response, sound pressure or hearing sensitivity.
  • A damaged driver without comparing the headphones on another known-good source.
